This note introduces a paper I presented at the 2nd International Conference on Best Innovative Teaching Strategies (ICON BITS 2023) at BITS Pilani, later published in the Springer proceedings.

The problem is not curiosity
Children from low-income households are not short of questions about how the world works. They are short of reliable access to the tools, kits, mentors and practice loops that turn curiosity into STEM fluency. In a country where technology costs fall every decade, that gap is increasingly a design failure rather than an inevitable one.
The paper argues for cascading STEM at community level through mechanisms that stay cheap enough to repeat — not one-off demos that look good in a photograph and vanish when the grant ends.
What the paper explores
Three threads run through the work:
- Low-cost mechanisms for delivering STEM methodically in neighbourhood and school settings, so participation does not depend on private tuition economics.
- Age- and interest-appropriate toolkits — what an “ideal kit” looks like at different grades, rather than a single undifferentiated box of experiments.
- Comparative signals from related efforts in other developing contexts, to avoid reinventing what already works elsewhere under similar constraints.
The underlying claim is pragmatic: if India wants more youthful technical talent and wants STEM to help interrupt cycles of poverty, the delivery system has to be designed for the cost curve of the household it claims to serve.
Connection to the rest of the journey
I work in digital engineering and AI. The same pattern shows up there: capability without access is a brochure. A model, a kit, or a curriculum only becomes infrastructure when the next cohort can use it without asking permission from a budget committee.
